CAIRO, Ill. -- A 45-year-old Mississippi County, Mo., man died Friday when the semi-truck tanker he was driving overturned at the intersection of Illinois Route 3 and Highway 51, one mile north of Cairo.
The accident occurred at 9:35 a.m.
Illinois State Police identified the driver as James Webb of Bertrand.
Authorities said the semi-truck tanker, owned by Delta Growers Association, was loaded with a mixture water and anhydrous ammonia.
Investigators said the truck was southbound on Highway 51 as it entered the Route 3 intersection and attempted to make a left turn.
The truck overturned several times and rolled down an embankment on the west side of the highway.
