A summer class in driver education will be taught on the campus of Cape Girardeau Central High School starting June 7, provided there is sufficient enrollment.
The first meeting will be held in the driver training building located on Whitener Street just south of the gymnasium, starting at 8 a.m. The course will be conducted June 7-25 and will not carry high school credit. However, it will meet the requirements for reduced car insurance rates.
Thirty hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel experience will be provided. All students must be 15 years of age or older at the time the course starts. The cost per student will be $120, with payment being made at the time of sign-up.
Students wishing to enroll in the course may sign up and make their payment in the high school athletic director's office on any weekday, with checks made payable to Central High School.
The initial part of the program will consist of about three weeks of classroom instruction, with the driving phase of the program following the classroom instruction on a more flexible schedule. Grades will be issued on a pass/fail basis.
