CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- A child received minor injuries when struck by a car and the vehicle's driver was also assaulted Christmas Day.
At 1:54 p.m. Thursday on E. 15th St., a 7-year-old child rode a bike into the path of a car driven by Chelsie Mott, 19, of Caruthersville. Mott's vehicle struck the bicycle, police said, knocking the child to the ground.
While at the scene of the accident, Mott was allegedly assaulted by the mother of the child, according to a news release from the Caruthersville Police Department. Mott left the scene before the police's arrival to avoid being assaulted further, driving to the Caruthersville Police Department to report the accident.
