A presentation on "The Forgotten Suffragist: The Life of Anna Howard Shaw" will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center Missouriana Room.
Dacia Charlesworth of the speech communication and theatre department faculty will deliver the speech.
The program is free and open to the public. The event will be hosted by the League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri. The Missouri Humanities Council, the state of Missouri and the National Endowment for the Humanities are funding the event.
Organizers said Ann Howard Shaw was instrumental in securing the right to vote for American women. Shaw earned degrees in theology and medicine from Boston University, but soon gave up the pulpit for the podium.
The presentation will include Shaw's own words and reflections, and those of historians, critics and supporters.
