About 17 teenagers attended "Improv @ the Library," a drama workshop offered at Cape Girardeau Public Library recently. Part of the summer reading program, "Tuesdays for Teens" began June 17 and concludes Aug. 5 with a teen movie premier and party.
Performing arts programs have been offered for first through sixth grades in previous years. This year's programs, titled "On Stage @ the Library" and "Live @ the Library," teach children puppeteering and the basics of acting. They are led by Diana Mays Nielsen. A showcase of talent is planned for 7 p.m. July 31.
Brooke Clubbs led "Improv @ the Library," a teen acting workshop. Teenagers participated in physical and vocal warmups; proceeded with a challenging tongue twister and before any real acting began, the group was encouraged to shake their inhibitions out.
"Tuesdays for Teens" is for individuals entering grades 7 to 12. Half of the eight-week session is spent brainstorming, rehearsing, filming and premiering a movie the group created.
