A new era will begin for the Jackson High School Drama Club this month.
Sharon Ramdial will direct her first JHS play, Nov. 21-22, when the club presents "Afternoon at the Seaside." Helping Ramdial will be Roy Northern, fellow Drama Club sponsor, and Linda Nash, faculty member.
Performances are scheduled for 4:30 p.m., Nov. 21 (Tuesday) and 7 p.m., Nov. 22. Some complications have arisen, however, due to the use of the JHS auditorium for a Christmas concert the week before. At press time the Nov. 21-22 performance dates were still in effect.
The play, an Agatha Christie mystery, will feature Kevin Groves as Inspector Foley, Lydia Blades as the beauty of the beach, Blake Burress as Percy, Jessica Brown as Mrs. Gunner and Zach Rice as the beach attendant. Chris Shank and Morgan Meyer will serve as student directors, while Ashley Booker heads the setting and props crew.
The rest of the cast includes Josh Hill as the young man, Jarrett Brown as the little boy, Erica Masterson as the mother, Tiffany McElrath as Mrs. Crum, Jared Rouggly as George Crum, Luke Hopkins as Arthur Somers, Shaelyne McQuay as Noreen Somers and Joe Gibbs as Bob Wheeler.
Understudies are David Koehler, Nic Baranovic, Katie Townsend, Juli Penny and Nicole Stanfield.
The plot centers around the disappearance of a priceless emerald necklace at the beach and the investigation that follows. The Christie play, which was originally set in the 1930s, will have a 1990s setting in this rendition.
