The Greater Downtown Merchants Association and Port Cape Girardeau Restaurant have teamed up for a Thanksgiving Holiday project to provide funds for the association's ongoing projects.

Port Cape will smoke 12 to 14-pound turkeys, which will be available for sale to the public.

"People may order their smoked turkeys by picking up order blanks at various downtown merchants," said Dennis (Doc) Cain, owner of Port Cape Restaurant, and a member of the merchants association.

Cain said turkeys could be ordered until Nov. 21.

"We have established three pick up days Nov. 25, 26 and 27," he said. "The turkeys can be picked up at the restaurant."

He said the turkeys would average about 12 to 14 pounds each. The cost will be $27 each, with the association to receive $8.50 for each turkey sold.
