DORENA, Mo. -- The Dorena-Hickman Ferry reopened for business Thursday morning after completion of the dredging of the Hickman, Ky., harbor, according to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The ferry is carrying only passenger vehicles at present, because of continuing low water on the Mississippi River. The ferry was forced to shut down earlier in the year because of low water levels in the harbor. It carries passengers from Mississippi County, Mo., to Hickman over the Mississippi River.
