The Dorena-Hickman Ferry was closed Sunday because of ice coming down the Mississippi River, a news release said.

Capt. Ed Floyd said in the release the ice is thick enough to hamper operation of the ferry and he'll evaluate the ice cover again this morning. Although warmer weather helps thin the ice, it causes ice upstream to break loose and get picked up by the current, the release said.

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry connects Kentucky Highway 1354 at Hickman, Ky., with Missouri Route A and Highway 77 near Dorena, Mo.
