Teams of Cape Girardeau Junior High School students, teachers, community members and K-103 radio personalities will compete in a donkey basketball game Thursday.

The game will begin at 7 p.m. at the Central High School old gymnasium. Tickets are available in advance and at the door.

The junior high PTA and student Beta Club are sponsoring the contest. Debbie Tracy, one of the organizers, said, "It should be hilarious."

Team members will ride or lead their donkeys across the basketball floor. To make a shot, pass, block a pass or steal, players must be mounted.

The donkeys are specially trained to participate in basketball games by Bob Crosby of Chippewa Falls, Wis.

In addition to the basketball teams, about 60 students and adults will be involved in halftime sack races, complete with cheerleaders.

Tracy said students from the Beta Club initially asked the PTA for help in sponsoring the show. "It fit lots of categories for the PTA," she said, "building school spirit, involving community members and faculty members and working with the students."

Admission for those 13 and older is $6 at the door and $5 in advance. For children 12 and under tickets cost $4 at the door and $3 in advance.
