The Jackson Senior Center, at 2690 Travelers Way, is trying to raise donations for a glass enclosure at the front entryway of its new building.
Unable to stick to the original plan of glass enclosure due to financing, the board of directors feels the need is great because of the cold weather and continuous use the front door receives. Their plan is to build the enclosure in honor of Melvin Lichtenegger, who was instrumental in organizing the senior program. Plaques with names of families or businesses who donate within a certain amount will be placed in the building.
The cost of the project will be about $950,000. The board believes the center can operate on donations, fund-raisers and rental income after selling the old building.
