KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- DNA that could provide the identity of a child whose body was found more than a year ago in Kansas City will not arrive here until Monday.
Police said Friday that a missing 5-year-old Miami girl, Rilya Wilson, has many similarities to the beheaded child known to Kansas Citians as Precious Doe. Her body was found in Kansas City more than a year ago; Rilya has been missing from Miami for 15 months.
"The approximate ages are very close, the height, weight and body frame are very similar and the facial features are very similar," Kansas City Police Capt. Randy Hopkins said Friday. "There are a lot of similarities that you can't ignore."
However, Hopkins said that until DNA tests are complete there's no way to know for sure if Precious Doe is Rilya.
Police were in East Cleveland Thursday to take DNA samples from Rilya's mother. Miami police were processing the DNA and will send it to Kansas City Monday, said Homicide Sgt. Dave Bernard.
