JACKSON -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Jackson Fire Department were supervising the cleanup of diesel fuel in Jackson Wednesday night.
City Manager Steve Wilson said a tank owned by Coop near East Main Street and the old railroad tracks leaked diesel fuel into the ground and a nearby creek. He said the leakage was noticed late Wednesday afternoon.
"There was some oil, or diesel fuel, noticed on the water and the Department of Natural Resources was notified," Wilson said. "The fire department and building officials also were called as a precautionary measure."
Wilson said Coop wasn't sure how much diesel fuel leaked from the tank. He said Wednesday night that city crews and the DNR were investigating the leak.
"Coop has hired a contractor to try to see where the leak is," he said. And in the morning we should see how successful containment efforts were."
