JEFFERSON CITY -- Gov. Mel Carnahan has reappointed Cape Girardeau lawyer Don Dickerson to Southeast Missouri State University's Board of Regents.
Dickerson's new six-year term will expire Jan. 1, 2005. Carnahan appointed Dickerson to the board in 1993.
Dickerson, who currently serves as board president, is a friend of the governor.
The university's president, Dr. Dale Nitzschke, welcomed the governor's action.
"Don has been a steadfast leader as the university has moved forward with many exciting changes and major technology enhancements," said Nitzschke.
He praised Dickerson's efforts in helping to lay the groundwork for creation of the university's River Campus.
"Early in his term, Don was instrumental in putting funding for our beautiful business building into the governor's first limited bond issue, which was subsequently passed by voters," Nitzschke said.
He said Dickerson also has been a central figure in the school's efforts to construct a polytechnic building and a Sikeston Area Higher Education Center.
