BLOOMFIELD, Mo. — A 26-year-old Dexter, Mo., woman was being held at the Stoddard County Jail in Bloomfield in lieu of a $50,000 cash-only bond after her arrest for assault and armed criminal action.
Elizabeth Ann Evans was charged following an incident that allegedly took place March 4 near Dexter's downtown business district.
According to a probable-cause statement by Det. Cory Mills of the Dexter Police Department, a 27-year-old Dexter woman was exiting the Family Dollar Store at 312 W. Stoddard St. around 10:30 a.m. March 4 when a white Chevrolet sport utility vehicle approached her from across the parking lot at a high rate of speed and attempted to "deliberately run over [the victim] while she was walking to a vehicle."
A witness said the SUV, which police say was driven by Evans, came within only a few feet of the woman before the she bolted for safety.
Both the woman and the witness claim in their statements to have seen Evans accelerate the vehicle in the woman's direction and jump a curb before coming to a halt.
According to an additional incident report filed by Mills, Evans and the woman who was allegedly targeted have a history of antagonistic behavior, with the woman claiming incidents of Evans stalking her on numerous occasions in recent months.
Police said accusations have been made by Evans in recent weeks involving the theft of items from a relative's home, with Evans naming the woman as the guilty party. Mills' report further states the woman is involved in a relationship with a relative of Evans and that Evans allegedly has "stalked" the two on more than one occasion.
The charges brought against Evans include the felonies of second-degree assault and armed criminal action.
