Dexter men charged with Bernie man's death

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Two Southeast Missouri men were behind bars on murder and robbery charges Sunday night in connection with the death of 34-year-old heavy-equipment operator Sean Crow, whose body was found last week inside a truck on a fast-food restaurant parking lot.

Matt Cook, 29, and Glen Scott Evans, 45, both of Dexter, Mo., were charged Sunday with first-degree murder, robbery and armed criminal action, Stoddard County prosecuting attorney Russ Oliver confirmed late Sunday. Both remained in custody of the Stoddard County Jail on Sunday; Evans in lieu of a $250,000 cash-only bond and Cook was being held without bond.

Court dates had yet to be set according to court records, which also did not show a lawyer for either man. The first-degree murder charge alone carries a possible sentence of life in prison.

Authorities earlier in the day told The Daily Statesman in Dexter that Crow, who was found inside a red, GMC truck, had been the victim of a homicide. Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner said the determination came after an autopsy performed Thursday at Farmington, Mo.

The men were arrested after a four-day multi-jurisdictional investigation, Hefner said.

A 911 caller alerted authorities that a body had been found at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in a red GMC truck in the parking lot of the Advance, Mo., McDonald's. A witness said the truck was parked in the lot at about 6 p.m. the night before.

Hefner thanked the dozens of citizens who helped lead authorities to the suspects.

Details about circumstances of the crime and cause of death have not been released.

Participating in the investigation were the Stoddard County Sheriff's Office, The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Dexter Police Department, Advance Police Department, the Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, and agencies outside Stoddard County.
