BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- A Dexter, Mo., man is in jail facing rape charges in connection with an incident last week.
David Shelton Nash, 62, of Dexter was arrested Tuesday by Dexter police and is charged with attempted forcible rape.
Officers were dispatched to a home on North Sassafras Street after receiving a 911 call.
According to the alleged victim's statement, given March 6, she and Nash had gone to lunch together. When they returned home, he reportedly called her into his room. The alleged victim said she ignored his request and went to her own room.
She said he then followed her to her room and allegedly began touching her inappropriately. She stated he then grabbed her and tried to rape her.
The arresting officer's report stated that he saw marks on the alleged victim's hands and scratches on her throat consistent with the story.
Nash was transported to the Dexter Police Department where he was originally charged with third-degree assault and sexual abuse. He was then placed on a 24-hour hold awaiting a warrant.
He is being housed at the Stoddard County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
