The Scott City Council discussed the proposed Shepherd's Way subdivision with subdivision representatives Michael Stewart and Ken Strong at its Monday council meeting.

The council is concerned about the proposal to vacate Sixth Street between Cape and Clark streets for the 14-lot subdivision because a water line runs through that area.

"We don't want to impede your development. We want to see that part of town developed," Mayor Tim Porch said. "But vacating Sixth Street is a big issue for us."

A meeting between the subdivision representatives and the planning and zoning committee was set for tonight to discuss the subdivision further.

In other business, the city council approved a franchise extension agreement with Charter Cable that is renewable on a monthly basis until a long-term agreement is decided upon.

They also heard from Scott City police chief Don Cobb that Lt. Roy Butler will retire Dec. 1 due to health reasons and Cobb requested that the search for a new patrol officer get underway.
