Two women have been arrested in connection with a shooting that took place at 2858 Whitener St. early Thursday morning.
Denesha Deneak Walton, 26, and Veronica Caprica Jones, 22, both of Cape Girardeau, are charged with hindering prosecution, a class-D felony, meaning each could serve up to four years in prison if convicted.
According to their arrest warrants, both women "provided law enforcement officers with false information that she was not with [the] subject involved," and "fail[ed] to reveal the names of the individual involved in the shooting."
Public information officer Sgt. Jason Selzer said Thursday afternoon that, while no one is in custody yet for the shooting itself, police do have a couple of leads on the incident that left one woman with a gunshot wound to the buttocks.
Selzer said police do not have any leads in another shooting that occurred earlier that night, but said that, "as far as we know, the two incidents are not related."
Selzer said the male victim of that shooting claims he was approached by two unidentified men who demanded his money. When he refused, the men shot him once in the leg and fled without taking anything.
The victim said he doesn't know what the assailants looked like or where he was, only saying that he was "somewhere over on the south side," according to Selzer.
The victim's wounds were not life threatening and police do not have any leads on the shooters.
Anyone with information about either shooting should call the Cape Girardeau Police Department at 335-6621.
