The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department is seeking the public's help in finding whoever shot two holes in the outer skin of a Jackson school bus.
According to a news release from the department, deputies received a property damage complaint Monday from Jackson School District officials.
Deputies recovered bullets from the bus, which had two holes in its outer skin that appeared to have been made by a projectile shot from a firearm, the release said.
The bullets will be examined for ballistic information, according to the release.
Authorities do not know when the damage occurred or whether any children were on the bus at the time, the release stated.
The damaged bus runs the route west on Highway 72 in the Millersville area, the release stated.
Lt. David James of the sheriff's department said in an email to local media outlets that deputies do not know whether someone was trying to hit the bus or whether the shooting was accidental.
Anyone with information about who might have fired the bullets is asked to call the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department at 243-3551.
