DELTA - The Delta School District will host an informational meeting Monday on its upcoming bond issue. The session will begin at 7 p.m. in the high school gym.
The district will pose a $1,050,000 bond issue on April 6.
Superintendent Larry Beshears will lead the informational forum. Also on hand will be the bondsman and architect for the project. After a short presentation, the public will have a chance to question the panel.
Beshears said the bond issue is two-fold. It would finance an addition to the existing high school building as well as pay for a number of renovations. The project would renovate the elementary school heating and cooling units, repair roofs at the elementary and high schools, demolish the old high school, and purchase equipment for the new addition, business classrooms, home economics and science labs.
"This is strictly a bond issue to take care of facility problems we have," said Beshears.
The old high school was built in the 1920s, and has a multitude of problems, he said. The school was forced to cancel two days of classes in early January when a number of bricks tumbled off the side of the old high school.
But the elementary school, built in 1957, has its share of problems as well. "Since fall, maintenance has had to go through the floor of the elementary school on seven different occasions to repair pipes leaking in heating system," he said.
The public is invited to attend this Monday forum.
