Delta, Advance school board results to be finalized today

Among the many contested elections in Cape Girardeau County were the races for two open seats on the Delta and Advance school boards and Advance mayor.

The Southeast Missourian reported Wednesday that according to results from Cape Girardeau County, incumbents Kenny Burnett and Donald Hester had won the Delta School Board election. However, when combined with results from voters in Bollinger County, Greg Brawley narrowly passed Burnett for the victory.

Hester received 198 votes in Cape Girardeau County and five in Bollinger County, giving him 203 votes. Grey Brawley received 163 votes in Cape Girardeau County, three less than Burnett. But when Brawley received eight votes and Burnett none in Bollinger County, his final total was 171.

Once Cape Girardeau County's results are certified today, Delta School District administrative assistant Jane Bowers said, the election results will be final.

In Advance, incumbent David Kennedy was the top vote-getter for the Advance School Board race while Daniel Seger was elected to the other seat. Incumbent Paul L. McFerron also ran but was defeated.

Kennedy received 237 votes; Seger, 233; McFerron, 169; Todd C. Woodfin, 164; Robin Cato, 134; and Robert "Bob" McAtee, 73.

Former councilman Carl "Pete" Ritter won the Advance mayoral race, with 200 votes. Charles Woodard came in second, with 110 votes. Keith W. Kimmell received 19 write-in votes.
