Are you going hunting this weekend? The weather could get nasty.
A.J. Hendershott, regional supervisor for outreach and education division of the Missouri Department of Conservation, provided these tips for hunters hitting the stands and blinds for opening weekend of firearms deer-hunting season:
* Be aware of the forecast. Keep in contact with weather alerts and warnings. Check the weather radar before you head out to see what's coming and going.
* Stay dry. As soon as you get wet, you get cold, which can be miserable, and hunting is supposed to be "enjoyed, not endured," Hendershott said. It doesn't take a lot to get your core body temperature down, which is a bad thing. Wear a waterproof jacket, pants and boots.
* Take responsibility for what you're doing.
* Play it smart.
