ULLIN, Ill. -- John F. Turner, director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, was keynote speaker during a dedication of two Cache River Wetland projects at Shawnee Community College near here last weekend.

"We're celebrating something unique here," said Turner, in reference to the two projects Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuges and Cache River State Natural Area. These are areas which will provide future generations."

Other speakers during the dedication were U.S. Rep. Glenn Poshard (D-Carterville), Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar; U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-Makanda), and Deputy Secretary of the Interior Frank Bracken.

The Cache River project is a cooperative venture between the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Illinois Department of Conservation, the Nature Conservancy and Ducks Unlimited to preserve wetlands and bottom land hardwoods in Southern Illinois.
