Cape Girardeau

The company hired to clear debris from Cape Girardeau streets collected 1,300 cubic yards of debris Friday. Marriott Logging finished clearing zones C and D. Today, the crews will work in Zone F, around Southeast Missouri State University.

"You can't hardly do it during the week, with all the cars there," said Dale Marriott, the logging company owner.

Taking advantage of Sunday's low traffic, his crews will be on Independence Street, William Street, Broadway, one end of Bloomfield Road and West End Boulevard, he said. "The traffic would be a lot lighter. We'd appreciate if people would be patient if they see us out there. If they can avoid coming up there, we'll really appreciate it. It won't take us long to get through."

Residents may also take tree debris to the city's Compost Holding Area, 453 Cooper St., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily Monday through Saturday.

The city's transfer station, open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday will, for a fee, allow contractors and those living outside the city to drop off debris. Use the South Kingshighway detour to get to Cooper Street.

Jackson

Jackson's public works department is concentrating on narrow major roads to make sure school buses and firetrucks can get through. On Monday, it will resume working in the Greensferry Road area.

Jackson residents are being asked to put storm debris within 10 feet of the curb, not in the street, for cleanup crews. Street and sanitation department workers are collecting from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until further notice.

Storm debris does not include building materials or brush or yard waste created before the storm.

Jackson residents can take small debris to a free collection point near the Recycling Center, 508 Eastview Court, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Residents or contractors may drop off large quantities at North Industrial Park on North High Street. The city is tracking the debris origin; proof will be required. The service is free for residents; contractors pay $25 per load. Cash and local checks only. This site is open Sunday, but starting Monday hours will be reduced to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Jackson's Public Works Department can be reached at 243-2300.
