Thousands of people gathered Sunday at Cape Girardeau Central Middle School as the Cape Girardeau Police Department hosted a barbecue to benefit 4-year-old Abby Jensen, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in early August.
The event included a silent auction, dunking booth, bounce houses, face painting and much more. Cape Girardeau DARE officer A.C. Walker said more than 3,000 people attended throughout the day.
"It's amazing all this happened in two weeks," Walker said.
All of the money raised at the benefit will go toward Abby's medical bills, travel expenses and time taken off work for her father, Cape Girardeau police officer Jon Jensen, as she undergoes treatment in St. Louis.
