A Cape Girardeau man pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action at the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse on Monday morning.
Tommy Joe Davis III, 30, was arrested and charged with the two counts after a June 4 shooting that injured another Cape Girardeau man at a home on Olive Street.
The penalty for the assault charge, a class A felony, ranges from 10 to 30 years or life in prison. Armed criminal action carries a sentence of at least three years on conviction.
Davis' next court date had not been set.
