Vision 2000 has scheduled a dozen hearings and a town hall meeting to get public input on Cape Girardeau's transportation needs and how to fund them.
City Councilman Melvin Gateley, an active member of the Vision 2000 civic group, announced the schedule at Monday night's council meeting.
The hearings could lead to a recommendation to place a transportation tax measure on the August ballot.
Hearings will be held at noon April 18 and 25, and May 2 and 9 at First Baptist Activity Center, 926 Broadway; 7 p.m. April 20 and 27, and May 4 and 11 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1820 Perryville Road; 9 a.m. April 22 and May 6 at May Greene School, 1000 Ranney; and 9 a.m. April 29 and May 13 at Red Star Baptist Church, 1301 N. Main.
The first six meetings will be devoted to transportation needs and the last six to how to fund road and bridge projects.
A town hall meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 22 to finalize recommendations. The location for that meeting hasn't been set.
