NEW MADRID, Mo. -- A Cape Girardeau family whose home was broken into May 31 will be telling a jury from New Madrid County their story in January -- when the man accused of the crime goes to trial. Craig Kizer, 51, also of Cape Girardeau, is accused of entering the Lisa and Scott Conrad home -- where he was doing construction work -- through a basement window. He allegedly was carrying a knife when he attempted to rape the 16-year-old girl living in the home and is also accused of stealing alcohol from the homeowners' refrigerator. Kizer was forced out of the home at gunpoint, according to Lisa Conrad's testimony at a preliminary hearing. He's charged with attempted rape, burglary, armed criminal action and possession of a controlled substance. Kizer's trial begins Jan. 21, but he must appear in court Jan. 11 for a pretrial conference. His case was transferred to New Madrid County in August.
