Cape Girardeau Battalion Chief/Fire Marshall Tom Hinkebein was only minutes away when the call came reporting a fire at the Dairy Queen located near the intersection of Broadway and Pacific streets. The fire began around 10 a.m. in the kitchen area. Two employees were on duty when a fire broke out on the grill. Cape Girardeau Battalion Chief/Fire Marshall Tom Hinkebein was only minutes away when the call came reporting a fire at the Dairy Queen located near the intersection of Broadway and Pacific streets.

The fire began around 10 a.m. in the kitchen area. Two employees were on duty when a fire broke out on the grill. Attempts to put the fire out failed, and the fire spread throughout the kitchen and storage area.

Other businesses in the corner complex received some smoke damage, as well. Fire crews called owners to the scene so they could get into adjoining structures to rid them of smoke.

No one was injured in the incident. Owner Robert Peeler said that repairs to the structure would begin immediately and the restaurant would be open for business as quickly as possible.
