The Southern Illinois Gospel Association will be hosting a Sing-a-thon April 30 at Shawnee College gymnasium at 7 p.m. for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic Fibrosis is the number one genetic killer of children and young adults in the United States.

Scientists found the gene that causes cystic fibrosis in 1989, and in 1990 they corrected the defective gene in a test tube with a copy of a healthy gene. Now they are ready to do the same thing in CF patients. Tests have already begun to see if this will be an effective and safe way to correct the defect and find a cure.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation depends solely on volunteers to keep the research going. Children and adults who sell $35 worth of tickets will earn a T-shirt. Additional prizes are available for additional sales. Tickets will be $2.50 each. Children under 12 are admitted free.
