NEELYS LANDING -- The Burlington Northern tracks closed by a derailment Tuesday were expected to reopen by noon on Thursday, officials said.
Jerry Jenkins, a spokesman for Burlington Northern, said crews used a crane Wednesday to set the derailed cars upright and to prepare to put them back on the track.
Jenkins said a barge was expected to arrive Thursday to pluck a partially-submerged tank car from the Mississippi River. The car, which contains pentene, was not leaking, he said.
Jenkins said authorities still do not know why 24 cars of the 86-car train ran off the track along the Mississippi River in northern Cape Girardeau County.
No one was injured in the accident and no evacuations were ordered. One tank car leaked, but the chemical, titanium oxide, was not considered to be hazardous, officials said.
