A vehicle crashed into the Discovery Playhouse children's museum in downtown Cape Girardeau about 7 p.m. Saturday and broke out two large windows in the front of the building, said the museum's executive director, Jennifer Mullix.

Discovery Playhouse was closed at the time and no one was injured, she said. The windows in front of the water play area were broken, but no play equipment appeared to be damaged upon initial inspection, she said.

Mullix said the driver of the vehicle was arrested; however, the Cape Girardeau Police Department could not confirm that Saturday night.

Discovery Playhouse board members and volunteers with Columbia Construction worked Saturday night to clean up broken glass and board up the windows to secure the building.

The museum will be closed today and Monday, but Mullix said it should reopen Tuesday.
