Police are waiting for a possible victim to come forward following a shooting in Capaha Park.

The single shot fired late Wednesday led to the arrest of a Jackson, Mo., couple, police said.

James Erwin Blue, 52, is charged with first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. His wife, Jo Anna Blue, 55, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

James Blue was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond, and Jo Anna Blue in lieu of $40,000 bond.

An argument started in the park, Cape Girardeau police Lt. Carl Kinnson said. The details are still unclear because of differing accounts from witnesses.

Some told police the suspect shot a handgun in the air, while others said he shot it at another man who ran away. Some witnesses said the man was shot.

After firing, the suspect told the group to get out of the park and then drove off in a pickup, police said.

It is possible that the man who ran away was injured, but police have not been able to determine his identity.

A few members of a group of about 30 in the Capaha Park parking lot near Broadway and West End Boulevard Thursday night said they witnessed the incident and were sure the man had shot directly at the victim.

Eighteen-year-old Matt Dodd said he had seen the shooter arguing with the victim on the south side of a park shelter. The older man chased after the victim and fired a shot at him in the middle of the parking lot, Dodd said.

Nevertheless, Dodd said he plans to continue coming to the park.

"This wasn't the sort of thing you don't expect to happen sometime," he said.
