Cape Girardeau County Treasurer Bill Reynolds announced Thursday that he will not run for re-election in 2004.

Reynolds, 74, has served as the treasurer for the last 24 years.

"I think 24 years is long enough," he said.

His announcement came along with his endorsement of Republican Dean Sawyer for the next treasurer.

Sawyer is the president of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce and is involved in several councils, clubs and committees in the area.

He has been employed for 17 years with the American Railcar Industries in Jackson, where he currently serves as sales manager. He also farms a 300-acre cattle operation in Cape Girardeau County.

Sawyer said he is excited about running for office and has already started a campaign committee and raising funds.
