ATLANTA - United Parcel Service of America Inc. will move its corporate headquarters to suburban Atlanta from Greenwich, Conn., by early next year, a company spokesman said Wednesday.
Spokesman Ken Sternad said the high cost of housing in the Greenwich area was the main reason the company decided to move to Atlanta.
Sternad said the move will begin this fall and be completed by the first quarter of 1992. He said the company is considering several sites in the northern suburbs of Atlanta to relocate its headquarters.
Sternad said United Parcel employs about 1,000 people in its headquarters. All of them will be offered the opportunity to move with the company to Atlanta, but he said he had no idea how many would accept the move.
United Parcel employs about 245,000 people worldwide, Sternad said.
