JEFFERSON CITY -- Missouri corn producers narrowly defeated a referendum that would have increased the statewide corn check-off.
The Missouri Department of Agriculture said the referendum was rejected by a margin of two votes, 944 to 942.
The referendum would have increased the check-off from a half cent per bushel to one-center per bushel.
Funds used from the checkoff is used to fund a variety of corn research and promotion project.
