Things sometimes seem to work out for the best, especially around Christmas.
Ruth Dockins at the Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging recently received a call from Mike Webb of Jackson. He wanted to make her aware that a lift chair no longer in use was in need of a home.
Webb's mother, Pat, of Cape Girardeau, no longer used it and wanted to give it to someone who could. For people who have difficulty getting up, such a chair can be invaluable.
Dockins told Webb the information would help someone, and not long afterward, she received a call from an individual hoping to get help with the purchase of a lift chair, which can cost more than $1,000.
Dockins knew that in order to get the chair to the right person, some help in moving it would be needed, because the mechanical chairs are heavy.
She called Captain Roger Fields at the Cape Girardeau Police Department, who located two officers willing to help. The patrolmen, Cary Dunavan and Bryan Blanner, moved the chair from Pat Webb's home to Diamond's home in Cape Girardeau.
