Red House holds meeting today to recruit docents
The Red House Interpretive Center is holding a recruiting meeting today at 3 p.m. for volunteer docents. Dressed in period clothing, docents/guides tell the story of Louis Lorimier and show visitors what life was like here in 1803. New docents will receive training and information.
The Southeast area Masonic High Twelve Club 546 met at Delmomico's in Jackson for its monthly meeting and to install new officers. They were president Ted Wilson, vice president Doyle Mouser, secretary Gary Estes, treasurer Robert Harper, masonic representative Charles W. Clendenin, chaplain Earl Statler, trustee Jerry Hampton and sergeant at arms Ron Cunningham.
The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society will hold its annual social at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson. Drinks and snacks will be provided; members and guests are invited to attend. The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday. The Jackson Municipal Band weekly concert will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday at the band shell in Jackson City Park. Bring a chair or blanket for seating. Special guests will be the Jackson High School Jazz Workshop, directed by Tom Broussard. The muny band's portion of the concert includes a tribute to the Civil War, selections from "Les Miserables," and marches.
The city of Cape Girardeau will hold a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at the Osage Community Centre. Partnering with the American Red Cross, The St. Louis Cardinals' "Step Up To The Plate and Donate" summer campaign includes a chance for donors to win the Cards dream package or a pair of tickets.
An earthquake hazards analysis seminar will be conducted by Mark Winkler, State Emergency Management Agency area coordinator, from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 2 at Scott County EOC/E911 Center, 22842 U.S. 61, Oran, Mo. This presentation is open to all local emergency management, emergency services, health officials, public service and related volunteer organizations. Seating is limited.
