Nature Center celebrates archaeology month

The Nature Center will recognize National Archaeology month and celebrate hunting and fishing day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be hands-on activities, flint knapping and traditional archery demonstrations, hunting method and American Indian artifact displays. Children can fish in the pond. Commerce Floodfest starts Saturday

Commerce Floodfest starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and will continue Sunday. A mule jump will be featured Saturday and lawn mower races will be Sunday. The historical society will award oldest, farthest traveler and family with the most members at Commerce City Park on Sunday.

Children's Art in the Park to be held Saturday

La Croix Church will be celebrating "40 Days of Community" by inviting area first- through eighth-graders to enjoy a free day of arts and crafts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Capaha Park, pavilion No. 2. The event will be held rain or shine.

Reischman/Kluesner reunion set for Sunday

The Reischman/Kluesner reunion will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Cape County Park North Huckstep Shelter.

Harvest day at Jackson celebrates 40 years

The 40th annual harvest day will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at Pioneer Apple Orchards, Highway 34 West in Jackson. Crafts, food stands, a baby and king and queen contest, live music, rides, soap making, apple butter cooking, cider making, children's games, an animal petting pen and mazes will be available. This fundraiser will benefit the American Cancer Society and Shriner's Hospitals. For more information, call 243-8008.

Jackson barbecue cook-off scheduled

The entry deadline for the Oct. 12 and 13 Jackson barbecue cook-off is Oct. 10. Prize money is offered to top finishers; bucket stuffers are offered to all teams. Annual missions auction to be held Oct. 13

New McKendree United Methodist Church will hold its annual missions auction at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at the South Campus location on Highway 25 in Jackson. Black Forest Village sets dates for Octoberfest

The 17th annual Octoberfest will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 13 and 10 to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 at Black Forest Village, four miles north of Cape Girardeau on County Road 638. Traditional crafts including basket weaving, blacksmithing and dulcimer playing will be featured. An assortment of fall concessions and fine arts and crafts will be available.
