Schrader-Floyd family reunion held in Cape
Relatives of Theodore and Martha Schrader Floyd recently gathered at Cape Girardeau County Park North for their annual family reunion.
Following a noon basket dinner, the attendees shared old photos and family histories.
Those attending were Robert and Anita Geringer, Paul and Wanda Roberts, all of Bellevue, Ill.; Ida Watkins, Alberta Loos, Sandra and Larry Fluegge, all of Cape Girardeau; Nelson and Maxine Floyd of O'Fallon, Mo.; Walter and Melva Floyd of Oak Ridge, Mo.; Charles and Jean Floyd of Leopold, Mo.; John, Angie and Lacie Floyd, Dorothy Blackman, all of Jackson, Mo.; Rick, Susan and Sara Floyd, Martha and Staci Floyd, all of Millersville, Mo.; Wilma Grossheider of Gordonville, Mo.; Jamie, Tim, Rachel and Ryan Birkman of Chaffee, Mo.
Attendees agreed to gather again in September 2003.
Boy Scouts schedule sign-up programs
The Boy Scouts of America will hold programs at various locations in September in order to encourage elementary school-age boys to join the organization.
Boys in grades 1-5 can join any Cub Scout Pack in the area, while boys in grades 6-8 can join a Boy Scout Troop. Scouting activities include games, field trips, campouts, fishing, canoeing and much more.
Programs will be held at the following locations on the following dates:
In Cape Girardeau:
7 p.m. Tuesday -- Blanchard Elementary and Franklin Elementary.
7 p.m. Thursday -- Jefferson Elementary and Alma Schrader Elementary.
7 p.m. Sept. 24 -- Cape Middle School.
6:30 p.m. Sept. 26 -- Clippard Elementary.
In Jackson, Mo.:
7 p.m. Sept. 26 -- Main Street Fitness Center.
Interested boys may also join the Scouts at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Broadway United Methodist Church in Scott City, Mo. A Cub Mobile Race is scheduled for that day following sign-up activities.
The cost to join the Boy Scouts or Cub Scouts at this time is $4.20. All Scouts will receive a free T-shirt.

American Legion post gets new commander
John Powers of Cape Girardeau recently took over as the new commander of American Legion Louis K. Juden Post 63. Powers took over the position from Melvin Amelunke.
The group meets on the first and third Wednesdays of every month.
Scott County historical society meets Tuesday
The Scott County Historical and Genealogy Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Riverside Regional Library in Benton, Mo. Guest speaker Steven J. Hoffman will talk about the historical preservation of buildings and how to get them listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Members and guests are invited to attend.
The society is an organization of about 100 people who meet at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Scott County Courthouse in Benton. Dues are $12 a year for individuals, but nonmembers are welcome at all meetings.

Youths invited to Cape library's 'safari' program
Adventure awaits at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Each month, Library Safari Kids, for children ages 3 to 7, will discover a new exotic animal with stories and activities.
At 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the library will be the place to learn about tigers. Those attending will listen to a story, make a tiger mask and romp like a cub with other safari friends at the library.

Meeting will feature mental illness group
The Community Caring Council will meet 7:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. The special program this month will feature the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), an advocacy group for caregivers and those with mental illness. A local NAMI support group meets regularly at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Emerson office to make stops on Thursday
U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson's mobile office will make stops Thursday in Advance, Oran and Chaffee, Mo. The office will be at Advance City Hall from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Oran City Hall from 2 to 3 p.m. and Chaffee City Hall from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
