Jackson band's last weekly concert today
The Jackson Municipal Band will perform its final weekly concert at the band shell at 8 p.m. today in Jackson City Park. Bring a blanket or chair for seating. Special guest will be Julie Walker of Jackson, singer, songwriter and guitarist who will perform original and familiar selections. Two additional concerts for the band will be at opening ceremonies for Homecomers on Aug. 9 and on Aug. 18 at the gazebo by the courthouse.
An educational and assistance table regarding Medicare Part D (new prescription program for 2006) will be available from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 11 at Delta Baptist Church fellowship hall. Information and assistance will be provided by the APPLE project in cooperation with the Delta Senior Citizens. For more information, call 794-2241.

Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, the Cape BBQ Fest is set for Aug. 26 and 27 at Arena Park. The deadline for team entry in this year's event is Aug. 12. Categories have changed and will include the best griller of chicken, pork ribs (loin or spare), pork (shoulder, butt or picnic) and brisket (beef).
