Morley's annual fall festival set for Sept. 5

The Missouri town of Morley's 31st annual fall festival will kick off with pageants and a softball tournament at 6 p.m. Sept. 5. Deadline for entry is Friday.

Pageant winners and contestants are encouraged to ride in the parade at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 6 beginning at the old Morley High School on County Road 430. Prizes will be awarded for the best float and best decorated bike or four-wheeler with costumed riders. For parade information call (573) 262-3779 or city hall at (573) 262-3094. Proceeds from Saturday's pageant will benefit Brownie Troop 71. Park grounds open at 11 a.m. Saturday; auction begins at 3 p.m. followed by children's games at 4 p.m. and a pedal car pull at 5 p.m.; 7 p.m. greased pig contest; 8 to 11 p.m. dance.

Christian Women's Clubs to hold luncheon

At noon Sept. 8 a luncheon sponsored by the Cape Girardeau County Christian Women's club will offer the program "Getting It All Together" at Delmonico's in Jackson.

Features include "Great Transformations" by village missionaries Ken and Kathy Wagstaff of Illinois; music with Jewel Seabaugh and speaker Eileen Phiffer on "Refining your Life."

Luncheon and day care reservations may be made by Sept. 4. Call Bonnie Macke at 243-2866.

American Legion schedules dances

Dances at the American Legion Hall Post 158 on North High Street in Jackson will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. on Sept. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Musical entertainment will be supplied by Country Touch band. Refreshments available. For more information call Naomi McClard at 243-4507.

K-9 training center offers classes

Now relocated to 616 W. Jackson Blvd., Jackson K-9 Training and Activity Center will be offering puppy, basic and advanced obedience and agility classes beginning Wednesday. Class sizes are limited. Call 204-8080 for more information. Happy Tails Day Care and boarding also available.

Cape Girardeau Public Library to hold book sale

A library book sale will be open to the public from 7-8 p.m. Sept. 5; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 6 and 1-4 p.m. Sept. 7. A special preview for Friends members will take place from 5-6 p.m. Sept. 5.

Lessons set for Parents Without Partners

From 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday Parents Without Partners will attend line dance lessons at Circle S Saddle in Gordonville, Mo. There is a cost.

Labor Day Pageant planned for Saturday

The Mr. and Miss Labor Day Pageant will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Executive Inn in Paducah, Ky. There are two age groups for boys 0 to 5 years old. Girls 0 to 20 years old may compete in seven different age groups. There will be a winner and three alternates per age group.

SEMO Fair Pageant begins Sept. 7

Beginning at 3 p.m. Sept. 7 the SEMO Fair Pageant will be held at the R&R Tent at the fairgrounds in Cape Girardeau. Six age divisions may participate. Competition includes pageant wear or party dress for Tiny, Little, Young and Pre-Teen Miss SEMO Fair divisions; sportswear and evening gown for Teen and Miss SEMO Fair; interview competition for the "Miss" division.

Contestants receive a participation certificate and prizes will be awarded. For information or an application call Melody Hutson at 335-9252 or Shari McConnell at 335-0423. Preregistration required. Exceptions may be made by calling in advance.
