Genealogical society to hold research meeting Tuesday
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday the Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society will meet at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson. This informal meeting will be a time of research with no business meeting or formal program presented. Visitors are invited to bring their questions and work with more experienced genealogists.

Group needs photos of military personnel
A local military support group which currently meets from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays at the Army Reserve Building in Cape Girardeau is requesting photos of military personnel to be used on its float in the SEMO District Fair parade. E-mail photos to Tina Plaskie at tina.plaskie@usarmy.mil.

VFW auxiliary to sell raffle tickets at Homecomers
Raffle tickets will be sold by the Jackson VFW Auxiliary 10495 at Homecomers Saturday. The auxiliary will be located outside of Ross Furniture on High Street in Jackson. Raffle items include a quilt embroidered and pieced by Inez Knott and Gladys Siebert, a Beanie Bear wall hanging created by Harlan Siebert and gift certificates to Main Street Fitness Center, Kidd's Gas and Convenience Store, Jackson Wal Mart and Rhodes 101 Stop.
Parents Without Partners schedules dinner and dance
From 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday Parents Without Partners will have an eat out/dance at O'Charley's and then go to Beginning Experience Dance at St. Vincent School.

Dutchtown levee fund raiser to begin Friday at Wal-Mart
Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday at the Cape Girardeau Wal-Mart parking lot, the village of Dutchtown will hold its annual fund raiser for construction of a flood levee. Soda, hot dogs and Polish sausage will be available for contributers. Call Bud Obermann for more information at 335-1106.
Gordonville board of trustees holds monthly meeting
The Village of Gordonville held its monthly meeting July 16. Present were members Nate Hartman, Sheila Gross, Mike Freeman and John Dumey.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, minutes of the previous monthly meeting were read and approved.
Sheila Gross submitted the treasurer's report with a village balance of $116,924.88; the report was approved.
Hiring an accountant was discussed. Sheila Gross will develop alternatives.
Action on city ordinances was deferred until the city attorney returns.
Breakfast fund raiser planned at Bald Knob Cross of Peace
From 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday a fund raiser and informational breakfast will be held at Bald Knob Cross, 17 miles south of Murphysboro at Alto Pass, Ill. Board members will make a presentation at 8:30 a.m. on the newly remodeled welcome center and possible plans for the future.
All ministers and interested individuals are welcome to share their ideas and opinions on how Bald Knob can better serve the public.
Generations program teaches new trends for baby care
Grandparents welcoming a new baby can learn about new trends in baby care at a program held tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Southeast Missouri Hospital's Generations Family Resource Center. The program is sponsored by the Center for Women's and Children's Services at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Recommendations on feeding options, safety tips, sleep positions and car seats will be offered. To register, call 651-5825.
