Lawmakers to gather at open house
On Aug. 23, the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence Board of Directors will host an Open House and Ceremony of Appreciation from noon to 1:30 pm. at No. 63 Doctor's Park in Cape Girardeau.
The Awards Ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will recognize Southeast Missouri representatives and senators whose diligence allowed the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence to receove over $160,000 in state funding for the next year.
Special recognition will be given to state Sen. Peter Kinder, state Rep. Jason Crowell, and state Rep. Denny Merideth. Through their efforts, the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence continues to be a "Voice for Victims".
This state funding underwrites the care provided by the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence to children who have been sexually abused. Services provided for these special needs children include forensic interviews, as well as counseling and support groups for survivors.
Wappapello area readies for 25-mile yard sale
In celebration of the Labor Day weekend, L.A.K.E, a non-profit Wappapello area organization, is sponsoring a 25-Mile Lake Wappapello Yard Sale, to be held Friday, Aug. 30 through Sunday, Sept. 1, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
The designated sale route will begin at the Lake Wappapello Highway T exit off Highway 60 and continue across the dam north on Highway D to County Road 523, Pisos Point Road. The route will include yard sales, crafts, flea markets, and the Mingo Tractor club antique tractor display on Saturday.
Area businesses are encouraged to make extra parking space available for event participants along the sale route. Out of area participants will be responsible for securing individual display areas.
