KRCU's 'Going Public' to discuss Limbaugh book

David Limbaugh, lawyer, author and syndicated columnist, will be the guest on the radio program Going Public, at 3 p.m. Sunday KRCU 90.9FM, hosted by Tom Harte and Chris Schnell. The panel will discuss Limbaugh's new book, "Persecution: How Liberals Are Waging War Against Christianity."

Combined family reunion Sunday in Jackson

Descendants and friends of the Criddles, Moores, Devenports and Stroders will meet at 12:30 p.m. Sunday for their annual reunion at the KC Hall in Jackson. A basket dinner will be served.

SEMO iris auction at VFW Hall Sunday

An auction of iris rhizomes will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the VFW Hall, 1049 N. Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau.

Smelterville reunion meetings held Thursdays

Planning meetings for the Smelterville reunion are held Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ranney Street Park Shelter. The reunion is Sept. 27 at Arena Park, Shelter No. 1, across from the A.C. Brase Arena Building. Anyone wishing to help is welcome to attend. Bake sale for muscular dystrophy set for Friday

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday the Bank of Missouri, 318 E. Main St., Jackson, will hold a bake sale to assist with the Muscular Dystrophy Association's lockup.

Grab a snack and bail out a jailbird to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Noon Lions install new officers in July meeting

Mike Edwards, outgoing president of the Noon Lions Club, installed the following new officers at the club's July meeting: president Kevin Govero; first vice-president Danny Lynn; second vice-president Steve Marchbanks; secretary Bill Kiel and treasurer Mel Van De Ven.

The following directors for the Noon Lions Club were also installed and began their one-year terms: Kyle Brost, Bard Womack and Dr. Rich Kies. Clint Karnes was installed for a two-year term.

Cape public library announces schedule

From 10 to 10:30 a.m. today the "Hands On" program, for 3- to 5-year-olds will feature chef's choice; from 2 to 3 p.m. the "Kids Can 2" program; for grades 4 to 6 there will be Marshmallow Shooters. There is a nominal charge for supplies. Call 334-5279 to register.

The 2003 Summer Reading Program, "Laugh It Up @ Your Library," concludes at 2 p.m. Friday. Anthony Clark will present his 45-minute program "Funny Folktales and Twisted Tunes" to celebrate the end of summer activities. Clark's live performances are a blend of lively original songs, classic teaching tales and family friendly comedy.

The grand prize drawing of four bicycles, donated by the UCT Council 534 and the VFW Post 3838 and its Auxiliary, will follow. Complete a game board at the Youth Services Desk by 2 p.m. Friday to be included in the drawing.

Participants need not be present to win.

Jackson teen competing in Miss Teen pageant

Kelsey Shearon, daughter of Alan and Ginger Shearon of Jackson, was among the candidates competing for the title of Miss Teen of Missouri at the 2003 State Pageant, held at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., July 18 to 20.

The winner of the pageant competition will receive a $1,000 cash scholarship, a $500 educational savings bond and $250 to present to her school on behalf of the Miss Teen of America Scholarship and Recognition Program.

The new state titleholder will also be eligible to compete for the national title of Miss Teen of America and vie for additional scholarship, prizes and awards.

Each state candidate is scored in six areas, including scholastic record, achievement and service to school and community, personal development of hobbies, talents and skills, general awareness written test, personality projection in formal wear and judge's interview.

Shearon will be a senior at Jackson High School.

Christian Women's Club to hold luncheon

The Cape Girardeau Christian Women's Club will sponsor a luncheon at Holiday Inn at noon Aug. 11. The theme is "Indian Summer."

The special feature is "Autumn Hues," with aromatherapy by Jackie Close. "Harvest of Melody" is the musical presentation by Ruby Tuschhoff and Jo Leadbetter. The speaker, Verilyn Hauss, will present "Reap a Bit of Wisdom."

Luncheon and daycare reservations must be made by Aug. 7 by calling Bonnie Macke at 243-2866.

Moore family reunion set for Aug. 10

The annual Andrew and Cansada (Poston) Moore family reunion will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 10 at shelter No. 20 at South County Farm Park. Please bring a covered dish and any old photos. For more information contact Ray Moore at 243-9055.

McClure 26th annual homecoming planned

Bucky Jacobs and Leslie Hooker invited former classmates of McClure, Ill., schools to a reunion 26 years ago. It became an annual affair and this year is slated for 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at McClure Elementary School. Refreshments will be available.

Registration for the dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday evening will be at The Purple Crackle in East Cape Girardeau, Ill., from 5 to 6 p.m.

The class of 1953, the first class to graduate from Shawnee High School, and classes of 1933 and 1943 will be recognized. Members of these classes are encouraged to be a part of this special event as well as individuals of all classes. For more information call 334-0363 or (618) 661-1500.
