Cape Evening Optimists moves to VFW hall

The Cape Evening Optimist club will move its weekly meetings to the Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838 Hall on Kingshighway, effective Thursday. The club's next picnic will be at Arena Park at the Optimist Shelter at 6 p.m. July 28. Cape Evening Optimist club sponsors bingo at Bingo World every first and third Friday evenings, and all proceeds go to helping the youth in the area. Jackson muny band will feature guests Saxy Jazz

The Jackson Municipal Band will hold its weekly concert at 8 p.m. Thursday at the band shell in Jackson city park. Special guests for the show will be Pat Schwent and the Saxy Jazz Transitions. The Jackson Municipal Band's portion of the concert will include "On an American Spiritual" by David Holsinger and a collection of hits by the great Leroy Anderson. The saxophones will feature "Swing Low Sweet Saxes," and marches. A collection of patriotic tunes will round out the concert. Guests should bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating. Entrance to the shell parking lot is on Route D just down from Pocahontas Lumber.
