Prescription assistance bus travels to area

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance bus is equipped with computers and people to assist low-income individuals and families find prescription assistance to best suit their needs. From 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday they will be at Perry Park Center, 800 City Park Drive, Perryville, Mo.; from 9 to 11 a.m. June 28 at the Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope St., Cape Girardeau; from 1:30 to 3 p.m. June 28 at First United Methodist Church, 1307 North Main St., Sikeston, Mo.

Nursing center plans benefit for aviary

The Caruthersville Nursing Center will hold a benefit concert from 6 to 10:30 p.m. June 30 at the Caruthersville Armory. Performances will be given by Elvis tribute artist "Shelby Dee" and saxophone great Jerry Tuttle. Proceeds will benefit the aviary fund, which will provide "pet therapy" for residents. Children under 12 are free. Donations to the aviary fund can be made in memory or honor of a family member. Tickets can be purchased at the First State Bank, FOCUS Bank, Daylight Donuts, Roundhouse, Baker's Auto Parts and the Caruthersville Nursing Center. In Steele, Mo. Tickets may be purchased at Dreamers.

Southeast Missouri Pachyderms meet today

The Southeast Missouri Pachyderm Club will meet at 6:15 p.m. for a meal, with meeting to begin at 7 p.m. today at Dexter Barbecue in Cape Girar-deau. A guest speaker will follow. For more information call Gerald Adams at 243-4199.

Fun Fest will raise funds for child with leukemia

The eighth annual Freidheim Fun Fest being held July 7 will be a fund-raiser for Desiree Vernon, daughter of Curt and Connie Meyer Vernon. She is a 5-year-old kindergartner receiving treatment for leukemia at Cardinal Glennon Hospital. The trail ride meets at 10 a.m. in Friedheim for a trek on mostly gravel roads. At 6 p.m. there will be a potluck supper. Bring a dish and drinks. Silverware and plates provided. Music at 6 p.m. will feature Reminisce and The Caney Fork Boys. Bring a lawn chair. Donations will be collected. Funds raised will be matched by Thrivent. The event will be held in Friedheim across the road from Trinity Lutheran Church.

Hemmann reunion planned for July 8

Descendants of Gustav and Marguerite Hemmann will hold a reunion beginning with 8:30 a.m. worship July 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church Hall in Shawneetown, and at 10:15 a.m. at Zion in Pocahontas. Potluck dinner is at noon. Bring a meat dish and a side dish or dessert. Tableware and drinks will be provided. Featured activities include photo sharing, tombstone rubbings (rubbings will be made of Gustav and Marguerite's tombstone; materials will be supplied), a sing-along, and a Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum visit. Two regional pageants planned July 1, July 7

The Fourth of July Pageant, being held at 2 p.m. July 1 at the Osage Community Centre in Cape Girardeau, and the Summertime Pageant, being held at 11 a.m. July 7 at the East Prairie (Mo.) High School auditorium, are open to boys ages infant to 3 years old and girls ages infant to 21 years old. Entry forms can be printed online at www.southeastpageants.com. Each contest will crown three winners in 16 different age divisions. Eight special event categories are also offered along with the crowning of four overall supreme winners. Deadline extended for sweetcorn pageants

The deadline for the East Prairie Sweetcorn Pageants has been extended to Tuesday. The pageant is June 28 at the East Prairie High School auditorium.
