The first tornado warning system test was performed Wednesday at noon and will be repeated the first Wednesday of each month at noon in conjunction with the warning system owned by Southeast Missouri State University. The test will not be conducted if threatening weather is in the area.
The Cape Girardeau Public Library has won a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Sciences. The money will be used to redesign and improve the Web site, as well as allow library staff to update program information. Patrons will also be able to register online for library programs. A free catch-and-release fishing event, co-sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Jaycees and the Missouri Department of Conservation, will be held from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Capaha Park. "Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds" is the 2005 summer reading theme. Children from birth to 12 may sign up and set reading goals beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the kickoff. Space is limited.
