Heritage Association seeking donations

Trinkets, bric-a-brac, doilies, old cookbooks and items that no longer have a place in your home can be donated to the Jackson Heritage Association for use in the upcoming May 29 Memorial Day Weekend "100 Mile Yard Sale." Please do not donate clothing. All contributions are tax deductible. Items may be dropped off from May 15 to 28 at Kevin and Debbie Schearf's home, 425 N. High St., Jackson, or you may call 243-0761 and leave a message. The sale will be held at South Elementary School. Those wishing to help with pricing or the sale may call Kevin Schearf or Kyle Mabuce at 204-0829.

Program will address staying home alone

Full of important information for children and parents, the free "Old Enough to Stay Alone?" program will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Community Room at Southeast's Main Street Fitness, 410 W. Main St., Jackson. University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson human development specialist Mary Goshe will prepare children for situations they may encounter on their way home from school or when they're at home without parents. Registration is requested for the program sponsored by Southeast's Center for Women's and Children's Services. Call the Generations Center at 651-5825 to register or for more information.

Friends of the Park Day planned at Capaha

The 19th Annual Friends of the Park Day will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Capaha Park.

Local FCE Clubs plan trip to St. Charles

Local FCE Clubs are planning a one day trip to St. Charles, Mo., on May 21. Activities include the rededication of the William Clark Monument, the commemoration of the Corps of Discovery's departure from St. Charles, walking tours of St. Charles, the opportunity to tour the first Missouri State Capitol and shopping. The trip is sponsored by the FCE Clubs of Cape Girardeau and is open to all interested individuals. Zonta Club sponsoring flea market Saturday

Proceeds from the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau's annual flea market will help local charities. The flea market will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Centenary United Methodist Church in the Family Life Building, 300 N. Ellis, Cape Girardeau.

Volunteers to sit down and rock all night

The Beta Psi chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service organization, will hold their annual "Rock-A-Thon" for St. Jude Children's Hospital Friday and Saturday. The group will be rocking in rocking chairs outside of Walgreens on Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau from 5 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday. All donations received by the community will benefit the hospital.
